Morocco is a country full of culture, history, adventure, and one of the top destinations in Africa. From the bustling markets of Marrakech to the stunning beaches of Essaouira, there's something for every type of traveler.

In this post, we'll share some of the best things to do in Morocco to help you plan your next trip.

1. Explore The Medina Of Marrakech

The medina, or the old city of Marrakech, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It's a must-see destination! Wander through the winding streets and discover hidden gems like the Bahia Palace and the Koutoubia Mosque. Don’t forget to haggle with the vendors at the famous Jemaa el-Fnaa market. You'll find everything from spices to unique handmade crafts.

2. Take A Camel Trek Into The Sahara Desert

In our opinion, one of the most iconic experiences in Morocco is a camel trek into the Sahara Desert. Leave behind the hustle and bustle of the cities to spend a night or two under the stars in a traditional Berber camp. It’s an experience you'll never forget.

3. Visit The Blue City Of Chefchaouen

The Blue City of Chefchaouen is a stunning mountain town known for its blue-painted buildings. We found the town is a great place to relax. You can stroll through the streets and take in the views. Also, be sure to visit the Ras Elma waterfall and the Spanish mosque while you’re there.

4. Visit The Roman Ruins At Volubilis

Volubilis is an ancient Roman city that dates back to the 3rd century BC. The ruins are well-preserved and offer a glimpse into the history of Morocco. Take a guided tour to learn more about the history of the city and the people who lived there.

5. Experience The Nightlife In Essaouira

Essaouira is a coastal town known for its lively nightlife. You can take a stroll along the beach, grab a drink at a bar, and dance the night away at one of the clubs.

6. Visit The Bahia Palace

The Bahia Palace is a beautiful 19th-century palace located in Marrakech. It was built for a Moroccan nobleman and is known for its intricate tile work, ornate decor, and lush gardens. We found the palace is a great place to escape the commotion of the city and take in some of the local culture.

7. Take A Hot Air Balloon Ride Over The Atlas Mountains

One of the most unique and breathtaking ways to see Morocco is to take a hot air balloon ride over the Atlas Mountains. Whether you’d prefer watching the sunrise over the Atlas Mountains or the sunset below the Moroccan landscapes and Berber villages, it’s truly a site to experience.

8. Visit The Todra Gorge

The Todra Gorge is a natural wonder located in the eastern part of the Atlas Mountains. It's an excellent place for hiking, rock climbing, and exploring the local Berber villages. The Gorge is also great for taking in the beautiful scenery and indulging in several pretty selfies as we did!

9. Hike to the Cascades d’Ouzoud

This hike is one of our favorite choices for spectacular scenery. Cascades d’Ouzoud is a lush valley that has a laid back atmosphere. There are also restaurants to sit back and relax while admiring the Ouzoud waterfalls falling into the pools below.

Explore Morocco

With so much to see and do, you'll want to plan your trip carefully to make the most of your time. We recommend at least two weeks in Morocco to see the main sights and experience the culture.

Happy travels!
