Central America is the land of wonder that connects South America and North America, and it’s a diverse and eclectic holiday designation. It consists of seven countries, and choosing the best things to do can be overwhelming.

Luckily, Travel Pulse is here to help you simplify the process with the top things to do in Central America. These places captured our hearts, minds, and spirits while trekking through this beach, volcano, and cultural wonderland.

Tikal Ruins

When we think of Central America, we think of lush forests and ancient ruins. And we weren’t disappointed! The Tikal Ruins in Guatemala are a cultural heritage site over 3000 years old.

The region was one of the biggest Maya cities in the Americas and one of the most powerful kingdoms of the ancient world. The ruins are now a world heritage site and offer a great look into the power of the Mayan past.

Panama Canal

After taking a look at the wonders of the ancient world, cruise through one of the wonders of the modern one. The Panama Canal is an 82 km long waterway that bisects North and South America and connects the Pacific and Atlantic oceans.

Considering this canal was built before the advent of modern computing, you can imagine what a feat it is. There are many Panama cruise options, and it’s our personal favorite for those looking to be awed by human ingenuity.

Little French Key

Little French Key is a resort we aren’t likely to forget. The resort puts you right in the water and the surrounding environment, creating an immersive tropical experience reminiscent of adventure movies.

They have a variety of fun activities like snorkeling, diving, jet skiing, and kayaking, to name a few, and all the amenities you could come to expect of a top-tier resort.

Great Blue Hole

The Great Blue Hole is the perfect place for any divers with a penchant for adrenaline.

As the name suggests, the Great Blue Hole is a massive hole on the coast of Belize. Here, divers can take a swim, interact with the local aquatic ecosystems, and enjoy the majestic world heritage site that is the Great Blue Hole.

Semuc Champey

Semuc Champey is a holiday experience we’d recommend to all Central American travelers. These beautiful swimming pools in Guatemala are made of limestone deposits and form naturally occurring terraces.

Surrounded by lush jungles, this crystalline paradise is any backpacker or adventurer's dream holiday spot.

Volcano Board

Yes, you hear that right. Volcano boarding is a real thing and you can experience it in Cerra Negro. Go to the top of the volcano, get on a board, and slide down a black volcanic debris wasteland.

The trip to the top can be quite strenuous, so prepare with comfortable walking gear.

Pacaya Volcano

If you’d like to explore more local volcanic activity, there is no better place than Pacaya Volcano. Located in Guatemala, this volcano is active, volatile, and a site to behold.

The climb to the top is tough and the terrain can be hard to navigate, but it’s all worth it when you get to the top. Because, as a special surprise, visitors get to roast marshmallows in the heat.

Follow all safety procedures and look out for any local news about volcanic activity before your trip.

Bocas Del Toro

Bocas Del Toro is a breathtaking archipelago with a host of fun activities, beautiful beaches, and open local resorts to explore. It was our favorite resting spot and the perfect place to island hop and explore the Panama waters.

Antigua

When the urge strikes to enter the real world again, rather take a stroll through Antigua. Located in Guatemala, this colonial town is a world on its own.

The modern world hasn’t intruded on this world heritage site, and the bustling markets, beautiful buildings, and local culture will draw you in and never let you go.
