Dominica is, without a doubt, a haven that any traveler would love to explore. Its lush landscapes, spectacular waterfalls, and unique culture make it a dream come true for those who want to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Now that you are just making your bucket list and preparing for an exciting expedition to Dominica, we want to ensure you don't miss out on anything. Here is a list of some of our top picks for things to do in Dominica.

Explore Morne Trois Pitons National Park

You can't visit Dominica and fail to check out the jewel of the Caribbean. Morne Trois Pitons National Park is a World Heritage Site with some of the world's best rainforest and volcanic scenery. It encompasses most of the island's mountainous interior, making it a great place to go hiking and explore the local flora and fauna.

One of the reasons why we recommend this 17,000-acre park is its breathtaking lakes, such as the Boiling Lake and mist-shrouded Boeri Lake. There are also beautiful waterfalls to see including Trafalgar Falls, Victoria Waterfall, Middleham falls, and Emerald Pool. These are great spots for swimming and perfect for unforgettable photo ops.

We loved the Valley of Desolation, a volcanic landscape where sulfurous steam vents hiss and boils. It's the kind of place you will never forget.

Hike To Trafalgar Falls

Trafalgar Falls are twin falls commonly known as Father and Mother. You'll need to take a 10-15-minute hike through meandering paths and forests to get to them.

This is a great opportunity to spot some wildlife, such as parrots, iguanas, and even Mona monkeys native to the island.

The reward when you get to the falls? A stunning view of two cascading waterfalls merging into one crystal-clear pool that's perfect for swimming.

We recommend dipping in the hot and cold pools tucked amid sulfur-dyed rocks that create a unique spa-like atmosphere.

Snorkel Or Dive At Champagne Reef

Whether you're a beginner or an experienced diver, this is the place to be. Champagne Reef, in the southwestern area of Dominica, is renowned for its bubbling underwater springs that create a unique experience.

You'll see colorful coral walls, tropical fish, and even friendly sea turtles. We recommend taking a guided tour so you don't miss out on any magical sights.

Take In The View From Morne Diablotin

Morne Diablotin, or “Devil's Peak” in English, is Dominica's highest mountain at over 4,747 feet. It's a thrilling climb with spectacular views from the summit that will take your breath away.

The best part? You can witness the sunrise or sunset in unparalleled beauty. If you're feeling brave, you may even attempt the treacherous hike to Boiling Lake on a guided tour. We recommend only trying this if you have the proper knowledge, preparation, and equipment.

Relax On Dominica's Beaches

From crystal clear waters, white sandy beaches, and hidden coves to black sand shorelines, Dominica has it all when it comes to beaches.

If you want peace and quiet, head over to Mero Beach. What we loved about this haven was its natural beauty and lack of crowds. Buy snacks from the funky bamboo shacks along the shoreline and enjoy a lazy day in the sun.

You can also try Batibou Beach, home to some of the best snorkeling spots in Dominica. Enjoy views of the Caribbean Sea and lush hills in the background on this beach.

See The Beauty Of Papillote Tropical Gardens

If you're feeling photo-ready, take a stroll through Papillote Tropical Gardens. This is one of the most beautiful spots in Dominica, with its lush vegetation, colorful flowers, and babbling brooks. You can also interact with frogs, butterflies, birds, and plant species.

Explore The Historic Town Of Portsmouth

Dominica is known for its culture and heritage, making Portsmouth an ideal spot to explore old-world charm. The town is on the northern coast, with local restaurants and markets lined up along the waterfront.

We recommend trying fresh seafood at the harbor or grabbing a beer at one of the local bars. There's also an old fort overlooking the city that you can explore for amazing views of Dominica.

Visit Kalinago Barana Autê

If you feel like taking a step back in time, visit Kalinago Barana Autê. This is home to the indigenous Kalinago people of Dominica and offers an insight into their way of life. It's made up of traditional huts and cabanas that have been around for centuries.

In this village, get ready to try some native dishes and watch traditional dance performances. It's a great way to understand Dominica's culture and heritage.

Enjoy Whale Watching

Dominica is home to the largest number of sperm whales in the Caribbean Sea, making it an ideal spot for whale watching. During the months between November and March, you can spot sperm whales and other species in their natural habitat.

If you're lucky, you may even catch a glimpse of dolphins or passing turtles in the waters. We recommend you go on a boat tour with experienced guides to maximize your chances of seeing these creatures up close.

Explore Dominica For A Memorable Experience

Whether you're looking for an adrenaline-filled adventure or a quiet getaway, Dominica is the perfect travel destination. We recommend visiting each spot outlined in this article for a truly memorable experience. Ensure you have enough time to explore the unique sites and activities that await you in this Caribbean paradise.
